Having just posted an article on Water Features, something important has just entered my mind. When we volunteered to have rescued hedgehogs in our garden, the “Hedgehog Lady” told us to put mesh over our pond or introduce islands.
Evidently, hedgehogs can swim but the babies in particular can’t get out again. This means that they get exhausted and die.
Somewhere I have a photo of a hedgehog curled up in the food bowl that I put out for the stray cat and/or the fox. I’ll keep looking for it, it’s so cute.
