Having lived for many years in an old fishing port in Kent, I’ve had my fill of schizoid seagulls. Blue green algae are toxic to humans and turn seagulls into dangerous ‘crackheads’. They gouge of shin from peoples heads (if they are bald) or pull out chunks of hair. All because they have ingested blue-green algea from their annual bloom in the English Channel. Now it appears that they can be put to use to combat global warming by slurping up loads of carbon dioxide and churning out oxygen. This is believed to be how our atmosphere was formed.
