I am a graduate three times over. One of my qualifications is in Environmental Planning. My main lifetime job has been teaching. Teaching in schools when I was more physically able and now as a lecturer for the Open University. My subject is Environmental Technology and I practice what I preach.
This September I will have been married to the same man for 40 years!
I have always been interested in low cost ways of saving energy and resources.
Now I have discovered an absolutely legal way of cutting our electricity bills by 30% on average.
My reasons for starting this blog are fivefold.
- To share my knowledge and feelings concerning the Environment with like minded people.
- To help others save money as I do.v
- To have you give me your e-mail address so that I can update you with money saving ways of protecting the Environment.
- To raise money for charity.
- To make our retirement more comfortable.
Now I’ll explain further. My husband lost 90% of his sight overnight 15 years ago due to a condition known as PXE . He had to leave work. I’ll leave the rest to imagination. Both of my children have high powered Public Sector jobs. Neither is married so I’m not a Grandma! The younger is a wheelchair user who has ‘Hughes Syndrome’ of Lupus, but still works in a laboratory. I am now bionic thanks to Medical Technology . I have a stainless steel hip a Titanium knee, surgery on 2 other major joints, 2 discs removed for my neck and a Titanium plate fitted. Now I have a screw loose there AND an MRI to prove it!! Just to get the jackpot . Two attempts have been made to knock out nerves in my lower back to reduce back pain. Yes I am a wreck but have too tunes that sum up our family. “Carry on Regardless” and “The only way is up!”On a far more cheerful note, we have two rescued hedgehogs in our back garden. I thought that they would eat the slugs and snails. No such luck, they prefer cat food pouches- with gravy. BUT now there are three! The baby is so cute. It like to watch us in the garden and has found a spot to sunbathe in the autumn afternoon sunshine. At the front of the house I feed a fox. That is if the hedgehogs don’t pinch his food too. The fox is also fond of gravy. Because we have so little waste I put the dustbim out once a fortnight and even then it is far from full. When the post arrived today I open the gas bill with fear and trepidation. I needn’t have worried it is only for £22.15. That is all the cooking and 2 nights when we had the heating on. All thanks to our solar panel which is working as I write. Ah well now for the shower room. Tonight our children are taking us out for a 40th Wedding Anniversary meal.
Save energy today. Tomorrow may be too late.
Enjoy your life and lets leave something good for our children and grandchildren.
